FAQ – Gracie Kids

Are the kids divided into different age or skill groups?
Currently, our Gracie kids all train together. From experience, we all benefit much more from this!

How long does a Gracie Kids class last?
A class usually lasts 60 minutes; 40 minutes of that is technical practice, and the rest is warm-up and cool-down time.

Does my child have to fight?
Martial arts has to do with „fighting“, but in our particular case it has to do with „learning to protect oneself“. In „randori“ (light sparring without punching and kicking techniques) kids learn to overcome fears and get confrontations under control.

My child has Asma, can he still come to the training?
Please always consult your family doctor regarding any health issues. We design the training so that everyone can participate.

Do you also teach striking techniques?
Gracie Jiu-Jitsu includes punching and kicking techniques, but not like a Boxer or a Karateka. We use the punching techniques to keep the distance, that’s what we call „distance management“.

I am not sure if my child is fit enough for this?
We design the training so that everyone can participate. Gracie Jiu-Jitsu helps children where it is needed, if trained properly.

The Gracie Jiu-Jitsu program at ISBasel is the MOST popular after school activity across all campuses. As instructed by Franco Vacirca (Black Belt 6th Degree), the students learn to develop their mind and body holistically through a strong focus on fitness, technique, and practical application of Gracie Jiu-Jitsu. This is a program that has the potential to reach students of all ages regardless of ability or fitness level.

Each child enters the program with their own goals: improved fitness, confidence development, exploration of a new sport, desire to compete in Jiu-Jitsu tournaments. Upon completion of each session the students have learned how to slow down in difficult situations in order to asses, react, and conquer the moment.

All schools should consider to include this program in their extracurricular repertoire and begin to enjoy the benefits of confident and balanced students.
