leg training

During the hot summer days, usually from late June through September, we also practice our GJJ techniques in the “nogi” format.

Participants should always wear a clean, odorless rash guard or T-shirt instead of a gi jacket. Instead of gi pants, you can also wear BJJ fight shorts.

What is Nogi Jiu-Jitsu?

Key features:

– No more grabbing fabric: It is no longer possible to grab onto sleeves, collars, or pants.

– Instead, control is achieved through direct physical holds such as “wrist control,” “underhooks,” “neck ties,” etc.

– Faster pace: Without the “braking effect” of the G-sharp, the rolling is significantly faster and more dynamic. There are more frequent “scrambles” (frantic jostling) to gain position.

– Focus on techniques: While many collar chokes are used in gi training, no-gi training focuses on techniques such as guillotines, rear-naked chokes (Mata Leão), and leg locks.

– Jiu-Jitsu vs. Wrestling Influence: In no-gi, takedowns closely resemble those in traditional wrestling, since “throw techniques,” as used in judo, are only partially possible.

– Our Nogi training does not include wrestling or judo!
